The slightest..

of breeze made it actually doable this morning. Yesterday was 104-106 around here. That just plain sucks but like I said, today wsn't to bad and there is a nice evening coatal wind to sort of chill things a little tonight.

Anyway, yesterday we saw a few Glossy Ibis in one area so I wanted to go back with a longer lense and see if I could pull them in. Of coarse today they wouldn't come with in 100'!. At first light I was able to get a couple of looks but shooting freehand made it tough. I wanted to fish and just couldn't bring a tripod and rod so it is what it is. One low light shot and another sighting of a Glossy Ibis later in the morning were the only two shots I could muster. But, I did stick a few fish. Smaller fish were around and I got a shot at big cruiser mid morning and everything came together.  It was a great eat and my best of the year, and certianly one of my largest Carp on a fly. Carp in mid to high 20s are not easy to feed a fly around here. Hell, they arent easy to find period so I was pretty stoked.

Recent fishing

It's been pretty hot around here lately! The forcast is for more of the same with a string of triple digit days on the way.  Rainbows will eat but stream temps have jumped and i'm leaving them alone for now.  Highlight is Ken Hanley and I got out this morning for a shart Carp session.  It was already pushing 90 at 10am with not a breat of wind. We had caught a good number of fish so we made the long 2 mile trek back to the truck. They were eating well but seemed to be on the lazy side and we didn't see or catch anything bigger than 6-7lbs. It ws a lot of fun and I enjoyed spending some time out there with Ken. His website is on my links. Check out his video's, he does some nice work. Have a good 4th!

All work and ..

little play the last week. My fishing has been broken into segmants the last week with small windows to get out. Mostly hitting Trout and Carp.  Rainbows have adjusted to the change in flows and I have not. Oce I figure out where they went they will be in trouble. Carp on the fly has been excellent for small skinny water fish. Couple of good ones here and there but nothing to brag about really. The lake fish are super strong for there size but more suited to a 5wt in my opinion to maximize the fun. I  hit one of those places after an appt this afternoon and the flats were loaded with small hungry post spawn fish like the one pictured.  They will run down flies right now since they are really keyed into eating fry.  Milton also got a nice little fish too. Other than that, it's summer fishing around here. Time to hit the Salt or the Sierra's while there is still some water.

Koi hybrid..

I caught this unusual fish the other day. Clearly has some Koi influence with the fin tips. Also, a different looking dark band around the mid section.  I thought it was a neat and different looking fish. I have seen a few Koi on this water but have not stuck one yet.  Trout has slowed down a little but a few will still grab a streamer.

Have a good weekend
