Spring fishing report..
Seems like we are fast tracking right into warm weather when other parts of the country are still getting hammered with bitter cold. Today will be in the high 70s to low 80s. Stripers are on fire. Nothing really big but numbers of school fish will keep you busy all day if you know where to look. Bass fishing, especially Smallies & Largemouth has been really good the last couple of weeks too. Some good quality fish are already up shallow and I have been hitting them with Bass Tackle.
We are in the middle or tail end of the first spawn cycle of Carp in some places and it's pretty easy to rack up good numbers of fish. Some days big girls are out, other times it's smaller fish or no fish depending on where your looking.. Again, it really depends on where your at and how hard you want to work at it.

The slightest..
of breeze made it actually doable this morning. Yesterday was 104-106 around here. That just plain sucks but like I said, today wsn't to bad and there is a nice evening coatal wind to sort of chill things a little tonight.
Anyway, yesterday we saw a few Glossy Ibis in one area so I wanted to go back with a longer lense and see if I could pull them in. Of coarse today they wouldn't come with in 100'!. At first light I was able to get a couple of looks but shooting freehand made it tough. I wanted to fish and just couldn't bring a tripod and rod so it is what it is. One low light shot and another sighting of a Glossy Ibis later in the morning were the only two shots I could muster. But, I did stick a few fish. Smaller fish were around and I got a shot at big cruiser mid morning and everything came together. It was a great eat and my best of the year, and certianly one of my largest Carp on a fly. Carp in mid to high 20s are not easy to feed a fly around here. Hell, they arent easy to find period so I was pretty stoked.

Today
I hit some different water. This area holds tons of fish but I don't spend a lot of time here because of the mud. The substrate is really silty/muddy and it's a pain in the ass to slog through. The location can be a real problem with ticks and rattle snakes as well. Consequently I usually have the place to myself. There weren't as many fish around as I hoped at first glance and the ones that I did see were moving fast and kind of edgy. Not real happy at all. I've seen this with Carp on the full moon before. They looked catchable so I stuck around trudged on through the tall tick infested, bog. I blew out the first two shots being way to casual. I was able to rally back over the next 4 hours and stick a few. They love large dark flies that move a lot of water. It's one place where they will even eat bugs that I tie! Time to get on the Salt and do some damage to some Halibut and Lings..
