Misc Fishing..

My Intention was to fish Monterey Bay this weekend..We had perfect ocean conditions and I was able to get one day during the week. Wind/Swell kicked up for the weekend and it looks like it's going to continue on through...Black, Blue and Olive Rockfish were eating OK off the kelp beds. I havn't been out there much lately and this trip fun.. A little swell but the wind cooperated for the most part.

So, with no plans and wind screaming everywhere I wanted to boat fish, Carp on foot it was. One is tough as hell to fish creek with smart wary carp and I fished the afternoon at a local Reservior. Got bit at both places today. The one fish I was able to feed on the creek broke me off due to human error. I tried to put the brakes on the fish when she was heading to thick cover and 'kapow" gone. It's really hard to turn em when they are green. The lake gave up what I consider school fish. Post spawn fish mudding on flats. Wind blew strong out of the south and warm. I also hit a small creek to finish up on some pretty little rainbows.

East Side

Headed over to scout a Western Nevada reservior with a good population of big Walleye, wipers and yellow perch.. 3 fish you won't find in California. Going up the west slope was pleasant enough. Once I hit the summit I knew I was in for it. Weather turned to shit the rest of the trip. Rain, snow, hail, very close unpredictable lightining ect ect... I did about a 400 mile loop and was home by 10pm. It is still one of the most beautiful places on earth, even if you never make a cast. Ran into some Wild Horses and turkeys along the way. The lake you ask?...well it was blown out with zero vis and rising fast. Still a little early. I'll own it next time!I didn't stop for photos much but here are a the ones I took.

Skunked

Found lots of fish on the flats but I couldn't get them to key in on anything I threw at them. Snagged one on the dorsal and that was a handfull for about 10 min. Shortly after I got one too eat and the fish quickly broke me off. Everything looked good, tippet material (8lb flouro) just failed. Perhaps I had a nick from the snagged fish. It broke 3 feet up from the fly. Pissed me off. Worked several other fish for looks but no takes. These Dragon Flys look like refueling helicopters or something.

South Bay fishing

It's ridiculous how much water we have to fish on foot. Both boats have been parked for a couple of weeks while try and get these carp out of my system. It's not working. Today I worked some flats on another reservior and found some willing fish after a few fly adjustments. First 3 fish looked but refused. I saw tons of fry so I went with a little shrimp fly that looks similar to the bait I was seeing . Next two fish I threw on grabed. Fish were real subtle in there movements today. Mudding a little deeper and swating at fry ocasionaly. Few pics and a crappy solo hero shot.

Afternoon carping

I changed locations from the suburb creeks to a more out of the way area. The upper end of a local reservior with a meandering shallow slough. Lots of fish provide endless shots but lack of bank cover leaves you exposed and they made me on several occasions. The open space Makes it tough but I scored a couple of clean fish from less than a foot of water.
